Biography
Camille Roqueplan studied under two highly respected painters and teachers, Alexandre Abel de Pujol (1785–1861) and Baron Antoine-Jean Gros (1771–1835). Abel de Pujol was a history painter, while Gros, who taught Roqueplan at the École des Beaux-Arts from 1818, was one of the most esteemed artists under the reigns of Napoleon I, Louis XVIII and Charles X. Roqueplan first exhibited his paintings at the Paris Salon in 1822, where he regularly showed his works until his death in 1855.
