István Szőnyi
1894–1960 · Early Modern (Fauvism, Cubism, Expressionism)
Biography
It is an interesting fact that István Szőnyi, who practised every branch of the fine arts to a high technical standard, taught at the Academy of Fine Arts and edited and partly wrote the handbook The School of Fine Arts, was forced to interrupt his studies several times and in the end never obtained a diploma. First when he was called up as a soldier in the First World War, and then when he was expelled in the reprisals following the Hungarian Soviet Republic, having been summoned before a disciplinary committee for his activities, at which he did not appear.
