Biografía
Adapting to work in the home, in 1903 Morbelli set up a permanent studio within the institution and continued painting interior scenes there until 1911, but his interest in rural landscapes remained. In the last years of his life he summarised his artistic methods, aesthetic principles and the results of his investigations into colour theory in a detailed diary, which he gave the lofty title The Crossroads of Divisionism. Although Divisionism proved a short-lived movement and is little known today, it played an important part in paving the way for the Futurists, who adopted the colour-band technique almost wholesale for their kinetic depictions of modern life. The Futurists themselves acknowledged this: in their technical manifesto of 1910 they declared that “painting would not exist today without Divisionism.”
