Biografía
Man Ray always drew a line between his paintings and his photographs: “I paint what cannot be photographed, that which comes from the imagination, from dreams or from the subconscious. I photograph the things that I do not want to paint, the things that already exist.” He himself placed painting artistically above photography, but in fact he became known through his highly significant innovations in the latter. His greatest successes came with his “rayographs”, those ethereal images he obtained by placing an object on light-sensitive photographic paper and then exposing it to sharp light. The writer Jean Cocteau aptly described these works as “paintings made with light”.
